Margo was born and raised in Calgary,
Alberta. When her husband retired in 1995, they moved to Nanaimo on
Vancouver Island and now reside in Vancouver.
In 1996, Margo had an opportunity to
take a teddy bear workshop, and made several children's
bears from synthetics. The following year, Margo
attended Linda Mullins show in San Diego and discovered
Mohair and experienced the creativity in teddy bear making
and decided that this was something that she would like to
pursue. Since then, Margo has taken several bear
making and design workshops with some of the leading teddy
bear artists in Canada, the United States and South
Africa.
Margo now designs her own patterns. Her
Winchelsea Bears are made from German Schulte Mohair and
heirloom furs with ultra suede or wool felt paws and
pads. The faces are all hand finished with German
glass eyes and embroidered features, creating their own
personality. All the bears are fully jointed and
have a sewn in tag with Winchelsea Bears by Margo, as well
as a hang tag with Winchelsea Bears and logo , Margo's
name and the materials used, along with the teddy's name
and signed by Margo.
Margo's husband Ed is her greatest
supporter and is involved making the hardboard joints and
furniture to display the bears. The furniture and
joints are also for sale. He also accompanies her to all
the teddy bear shows. Since they winter in California,
Margo is now exhibiting in the USA.
